The World Series of Poker November Nine

At 8pm(UK) tonight the wait will be over and the final table of the biggest poker tournament in the world resumes.  The World Series of Poker November Nine is the most prestigious poker table found anywhere.  This conclusion of a Texas Holdem marathon will see a new poker world champion along with over $30 million awarded in prize money.

Back in July a field of 6,494 hopefuls paid their $10,000 buy-in and sat down to play poker.  Some of these players were professionals playing in another live poker event, some were qualifiers from online poker sites and some were amateurs who spent the buy-in as part of a dream but all of them, except for the November Nine, fell short of achieving the poker dream of becoming world champion, winning over $8.5 million in prize money and receiving one of those coveted WSOP Main Event bracelets.

The players line and chip stacks for the World Series of Poker November Nine, which resumes at 8pm(UK) tonight, are as follows:
Darvin Moon – 58,930,000
Eric Buchman – 34,800,000
Steven Begleiter – 29,890,000
Jeff Shulman – 19,580,000
Joe Cada – 13,220,000
Kevin Schaffel – 12,390,000
Phil Ivey – 9,770,000
Antoine Saout – 9,500,000
James Akenhead – 6,800,000

Out of this list of players one name jumps out as being a real threat to the rest of the field, despite appearing so far down the list.  Phil Ivey.  Third in the all-time winners list behind Jamie Gold and Daniel Negreanu, Phil Ivey is in many people’s eyes the greatest living poker player.  Even with just under 10 million chips, which is less than one sixth of the leader’s stack, Ivey will still put the fear of God into the rest of the poker table.  Forget bankroll management, we're now at the 'no holds barred' end of business and the title is still anybody's.

In the past the Main Event of the World Series of Poker has been won by online poker qualifiers.  Famously Chris Moneymaker took the prestigious bracelet after qualifying through an online poker satellite at PokerStars followed by Greg Raymer the following year.
