PokerStars beat its own Guinness world record
The last Sunday of the year was always going to be a biggie at PokerStars but just how big nobody knew. Back in July PokerStars set a new Guinness World Record for the largest online poker tournament ever held, with 65,000 participants but on the 27th of December PokerStars beat its own Guinness world record once again.
PokerStars first established the record for the largest online poker tournament in December of last year when they hosted a tournament for 35,000 online poker players. Then in July of this year PokerStars raised to bar again by hosting another online poker tournament but this time with 65,000 players, nearly doubling their own record. Now PokerStars has improved on its own record even further by hosting a $1 buy-in tournament on the 27th of December which attracted an enormous field.
149,196 online poker hopefuls, the biggest in online poker history, paid their dollar and fought it out for the $300,000 guaranteed prize pool. The top 30,000 players finished in the money with the winner grabbing themselves $50,000 in the process. The turbo format record breaking online poker tournament was completed in less than six hours and was eventually won by ‘oskar69’ who won the $50,000 first prize. Second place went to ‘Bommel222’ who won $30,000, third place went to ‘TLWPB ‘ who took home $20,000 and in fourth place was ‘willis59’ who won $10,000.
This latest online poker record from the world’s largest online poker site was made all the more rewarding for PokerStars due to software failure at their biggest rivals poker site. At the same time that PokerStars were rewriting the record books Full Tilt Poker were having significant software problems. The $750,000 Guaranteed, Sunday Mulligan, Sunday Brawl, and many other online poker tournaments being hosted at Full Tilt Poker did not play out on Sunday due to a major software malfunction. This did nothing but further confirm that PokerStars place as one of the best poker sites on the internet.
