On Sunday night online poker players saw the clocks in the US go forward meaning that for the next two weeks there’s only a four-hour time difference between the UK and New York (EST). Many of the world’s leading online poker sites use the Eastern Standard Time (EST) format and the clock changes across the Atlantic mean that for the next fortnight there’s a smaller time difference, which also means that you have less time to wait for that all-important tournament to start.
Just like the UK, the clocks in the US follow a daylight saving system but unlike the UK the US clocks went forward on Sunday at 2:00am, a fortnight ahead of us here in the UK. This can often cause problems for online poker players who don’t realise that differing time keeping systems. Many of the leading poker sites that serve US customers, such as PokerStars and UltimateBet, posted notices informing players of the changes to the time format but still many poker players from outside of the US failed to notice and missed the start of tournaments.
However, don’t get too excited at the prospect of starting your poker games early as we here in the UK will be changing from Greenwich Mean Time to British Summer Time on Sunday the 28th of March, meaning that the time difference between us and America returns to normal.
If you’re looking for an online poker site to play at where US players are in abundance, as there are players from the rest of the world too, head over to PokerStars. PokerStars is the world’s largest online poker cardroom with millions of registered poker players and the highest poker traffic found anywhere on the internet.
