Man won a womens poker event
An experienced poker professional from Delaware won a side event at this year’s Borgata Poker Open in Atlantic City. Not exactly poker headline news we know, but what we didn’t tell you was that this man won a ‘women’s’ poker event. He entered the women only poker tournament claiming that he was ‘tired of going home early.’
Abraham Kortoki is a seasoned poker veteran with total career winnings of over $640,000 to date. Kortoki chose to enter the women only poker tournament to play some more poker even though there were two other tournaments and numerous sit ‘n go’s still taking place. But this didn’t stop the cheeky poker player who chose to shuffle up and deal alongside his female compatriots and show them how to play poker, perhaps thinking that he would be playing weak poker opponents in a women only poker tournament.
A large number of the women, who had paid good money to enter a ‘women only’ poker tournament objected to Kortoki taking part and they made their feelings known to the tournament organisers but with many recent sexual discrimination legal disputes in Atlantic City the cautious event organisers were reluctant to stop the Delaware poker professional from entering. This isn’t the first time in poker history that event organizers have allowed this type of occurrence to happen and, as the world of poker becomes more gender-equal, it won’t be the last.
Kortoki played his way through the field of women to snatch the $20,982 first prize away from the disgruntled female poker players. Just as it seemed that he would be the most hated man at the Borgata Poker Open, Kortoki proclaimed that he would be donating a portion of his winnings to a breast cancer research charity, which met with approval from Nicole Rowe, the last woman standing in the event who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer and will undergo surgery in the next couple of weeks.
