Joe Cada, youngest every poker world champion

Joe CadaIn the last hour Joe Cada has beaten Darvin Moon to the title of poker world champion.  Cada started the final table on Saturday with a huge chip disadvantage to Moon but some gutsy poker moves and an enormous quantity of luck saw players like Phil Ivey fall by the wayside on the way to making  Joe Cada the youngest ever poker world champion.

Young Cada, from Michigan, US, is a poker professional who chose poker over his college studies.  Cada played the World Series of Poker final table as a PokerStars sponsored player and didn’t disappoint them. Cada beat the record set by Danish poker player Peter Eastgate, and previously by poker brat Phil Hellmuth, to become the youngest ever World Series of Poker main event winner.

The World Series of Poker main event kicked off way back in July with 6,494 players all striving to become this year’s poker world champion.  But by the time that the final table had been decided all but nine remained.  The nine poker players who made it to the final table raised one or two eyebrows, with only a couple of high profile names and a rank amateur as the chip leader.

Both Moon and Cada received some incredibly lucky cards to take them to heads-up.  First off, Cada, holding pocket fours, wins a significant coin flip against Phil Ivey’s A,8.  Then Moon finishes off Ivey with his heavily dominated A,Q against Ivey’s A,K when a Q, 6, 6 flop comes down with no king on the turn or river.  Then a few hands later Moon knocks out Steve Begleiter with another A,Q.  This time, however he was up against Begleiter’s Q,Q.  A flop of 8, 7, 4 came down and the turn card was a three meaning that there were only three outs for Moon, and blow me down, the river was one of those three aces.

The luck continued for both players as the hands progressed with Cada’s 9,9 finally winning him the  World Series of Poker main event title, the coveted WSOP main event bracelet and $8.5 million, plus marking his name in poker history as the youngest ever world champion of poker.

Remember, you can qualify for the World Series of Poker while playing online poker.  Look out for the WSOP satellites found at all good poker sites.
