Annie Duke wins the National Heads-Up Poker Championship
One of the most well-known and loved female poker players, Annie Duke won the National Heads-Up Poker Championship, her first major poker title for over five years. Annie Duke is famed for her poker skills and achievements and most recently as a contestant on the US version of Celebrity Apprentice, in which she had a high-profile run-in with aging comedienne Joan Rivers.
Duke claimed her first major poker honours since 2004 when she beat fellow female poker professional, Vanessa Rousso at the final table of this year’s National Heads-Up Championship. This fantastic display at the invitation-only poker tournament by two of the most prolific female poker players in the world was a real eye-opener for the men, who were shown how to play poker by the ladies. Duke walked away with $500,000 for her efforts at the poker tables but more importantly she has stamped her authority back on the poker world.
Duke is a World Series of Poker bracelet winner and also one of the ambassadors for one of the leading poker sites on the internet. In 2002 Duke made the move from Montana to Oregon, where she worked for ieLogic assisting in the development of UltimateBet. Along with poker brat, Phil Hellmuth, Annie Duke has helped to make UltimateBet one of the biggest and best loved online poker sites in the world.
